Getting around

Getting Around Morocco

Trains, buses, taxis and drivers, and how to use them without paying too much.

Trains

Comfortable and cheap. Al Boraq, the high-speed train, links Tangier with Rabat and Casablanca, and regular trains run to Marrakech, Fes and Meknes. Book on the ONCF website or app.

Buses

CTM and Supratours run comfortable long-distance buses, even to places the train doesn't reach. Bags go in the hold with a small luggage ticket.

Grand taxis

Shared taxis between towns. They leave when they're full, or you can pay for the empty seats and leave right away.

Petit taxis

Small taxis inside cities only. Ask for the meter ("compteur") before you get in. Night fares are higher.

Car rental

Great for the Atlas and the south. Roads between cities are good, mountain roads are slow, and there are police checks. Never try to drive into a medina.

Domestic flights

Royal Air Maroc and low-cost airlines link the big cities. Useful to save a long drive, for example to Errachidia for the Sahara.

Ferries from Spain

From Tarifa or Algeciras to Tangier. From Tarifa, the crossing takes about an hour.
